![]() Perhaps I will visit a scoop shop the next time I am in New York and see if things are any different there. I think we're supposed to munch on this 'honeycomb'. But the way the mix-ins dissolved does not appear intended. ![]() ![]() I'm not sure how to rate this pint because of what happened to the mix-ins. The effect in the Peppermint Stick flavor - a melted candy in a mint base was rather cool - but here I get the impression that the chewy/crunchy nature of the mix-in has been lost. I think the candy slowly diffused into the surrounding sweet cream leaving the voids. I think the mix-ins may have dissolved in the pint! I have seen this before with McConnell's Peppermint Stick flavor. That all might seem confusing until you realize that ice cream is also made without ice. Despite being called honeycomb, it’s not made from any honey at all. The 'coated void' nature of the mix-ins persist throughout the pint, though, and it is not at all crunchy or chewy like the side of the pint implied that it would be. Nothing makes us happier than this Honeycomb Ice Cream. The sweet cream does a pretty good job of balancing the mix-in and making sure it isn't too strong. Perhaps a slightly more burnt caramel flavor than the usual caramel mix-ins. There is a salted caramel flavor to the mix-ins. Generic clock generators create a square wave (inside the chip) that we can frequency divide, mask, and connect to peripherals. Step 2: Configure Clock Generator and Connect It to a Clock Source That means we don’t need to initialize it our user code. In most of the Arduino implementations of the SAMD21, the 48 MHz clock is already enabled for us (in the background, as part of the framework). As such, the maximum processing speed of the SAMD21 is 48 MHz. Some of these, like the phase-locked loop, can only be used to provide a clock signal for the peripherals. Fractional digital phase-locked loop (48 – 96 MHz).Digital frequency-locked loop at 48 MHz.Ultra low power internal oscillator at 32 kHz.You have a few options for clock sources: We’ll be doing this using a 50% duty cycle PWM and the 48 MHz system clock. Also, note that there are lots of ways to output a 1 MHz square wave on a pin. If you don’t have one of these boards, check your schematic to see where PA18 goes. Note that PA18 is D10 on the Arduino Zero, Adafruit Feather M0, and the SparkFun SAMD21 Mini Breakout board. Let’s walk through an example of outputting a 1 MHz square wave on pin PA18. We can connect and configure different peripherals in many, many different ways (thanks to all this multiplexing of clock signals!). While this might seem extremely complicated, the upside is that the SAMD21 is an extremely powerful chip. Once we have our peripheral configured (TCC, in this case), we then want to connect that to a hardware pin so that we get an actual waveform to appear. The SAMD21 also has a Timer/Counter peripheral (TC), but from what I could grasp, it’s “TCC lite” (i.e. In the example below, we’ll be using the Timer/Counter for Control Applications (TCC). Then, we connect our generator to the peripheral we want. We can configure each generator to have its own divider and mask (so that we can run various peripherals off different speeds thanks to having separate clock generators). The SAMD21 has 9 different generators we can use. ![]() The basic idea is to select a clock source from SYSCTRL (such as the 48 MHz system clock) and connect it to a Generic Clock Generator. To configure a pin for PWM requires a good bit of effort. The best description I can find for how this works is from section 14.3 (page 95) in the datasheet: If you think I missed something or got something wrong, please let me know in the comments! Please note that I am just beginning to understand how the SAMD21 works, and this article is simply a chronicle of my learning journey. In reality, it requires a good amount of code to perform this simple action. On the surface, it’s not too bad: you just need to set some values in some registers to get a pin to output a square wave. I’ve spent the last few days digging through the SAMD21 datasheet and online examples to get some insight into using CMSIS. Here’s the problem: when it comes to manually configuring registers for 32-bit ARM microcontrollers, it’s vastly more difficult than it is for most other 8- or 16-bit architectures. Not that there is anything wrong with ASF, I just like to learn about the low-level stuff. ![]() If you’re like me, you want to know what’s going on at the register level. Many professional developers swear by the vendor-provided abstraction layer (e.g. Microchip’s abstraction layer is known as the Advanced Software Framework (ASF). In some cases, this can make setting up registers easy (especially if there is a slick GUI program that generates code for you, like STMicro’s STM32CubeMX). Some vendors have decided to include their own abstraction layer on top of CMSIS to help people configure and use their parts. Ideally, you should be able to use CMSIS regardless of the manufacturer of the chip (e.g. This is a set of firmware libraries that provide an interface to the registers along with some other functions. Almost all modern implementations of the ARM Cortex architectures can use the Cortex Microcontroller Software Interface Standard (CMSIS). For the average user, this is not a bad thing, considering it hides all the ugliness (or beauty, depending on your perspective) of manually setting registers.įor those of us that want to dig deeper into the SAMD21, there are a few options. ![]() ![]() Arduino has a habit of making pulse width modulation (PWM) pins with a set frequency (or limited frequency options). ![]() ![]() ![]() On 19 December 1946 it had been decided that German technology from the Second World War should be available for display in Australia for those wishing to display it and use it for research. The V2 rocket currently in the Memorial’s collection was initially brought to Australia by the British Long Range Weapons Organisation (BLRWO) and the Long Range Weapons Establishment (LRWE). The AWM V2 rocket – History and how we acquired it This added a psychological element to the V-2 attacks as they could be launched from anywhere at any time, and being supersonic they produced no sound until impact. The V2 could be launched from a launching table at a launch site or from the six wheeled transport and launching trailer called the Meillerwagen, a reusable steel launching pad that enabled the V-2 to be transported to any location before launch and made detecting a launch site extremely difficult (image 2). At this point there was no way to alter its course and it would be susceptible to drift, side winds, headwinds, and tailwinds – which meant it could fall anywhere within a 25 km radius from its expected target. This would then start the parabolic free-fall back to earth and to its target. The V2 would reach a predetermined velocity in which the guidance system would shut down. The trajectory of the V2 was only controllable during the launch period through the use of two gyroscopes, one for stabilisation and the other for guidance that would steer the four graphite rudders and vanes. Soon after this, the fuel would be exhausted and the V2 would be in free flight and subject to atmospheric conditions. At 30 seconds, the V2 would reach the speed of sound, 1,235 km/h at 60 seconds it reached its peak speed of 5,760 km/h. After that, pressure rose to 25 tons, lift-off would occur soon after, the fuel would burn for a further 60 seconds. This time was used to observe good ignition and look for any obvious faults. While combustion was taking place, the superheated exhaust gases flowed to the nozzle end of the combustion chamber and into the bell-shaped exhaust, where the rapidly expanding gases would produce the extreme thrust of the V2 rocket.Īfter the initial ignition the pressure of thrust would be at 3 tons, which took three seconds. This method of propulsion generated extreme heat, approximately 2,700˚C, inside the combustion chamber, which was cooled by the liquid ethyl alcohol flowing first to the base of the combustion chamber, then through the double-lined walls on its way to the injectors at the top of the chamber (see image 1). The pumps were driven by steam created by two auxiliary fuels, one made of T-Stoff (80% high-test hydrogen peroxide), the other 66% sodium permanganate and 33% water. A mixture of 75% ethyl alcohol and 25% water and liquid oxygen were delivered into a thrust/combustion chamber by two rotary pumps. It was powered by a liquid propellant rocket engine of liquid ethanol (which took 30 tons of potatoes to fuel a single launch) and liquid oxygen. ![]() It was 17 times more powerful than the largest rocket engine at the time and flew at five times the speed of sound. The final V2 design weighed 12,500 kg, was 14 m in length and 1.65 m in diameter. Developed by Wernher von Braun in 1936, it was developed from his research into liquid fuelled rockets during his time studying at the Technical University of Berlin with the Hungarian-German father of rocketry, Hermann Oberth. The V2 rocket was the first ballistic guided missile to use advanced rocket technology and to be used in war by the Nazi’s against the Allies. ![]() ![]() I am not keen on running the MSI as you can not be sure just running that does everything the setup does. We are at a crossroads that will either haunt our future or redeem it. Renewable Energy Is Ready to Take Center Stage Policy makers can keep catering to the fossil fuel industry and condemn us to runaway climate chaos, or we can boldly reverse course, act for the benefit of humanity and take the necessary steps to end fossil fuels. The need for urgent climate action becomes more pressing daily, and fortunately renewable energy options are cheaper than ever. #Fuel drilling plans undermine climate pledges how to.By 2030, the report found, the world's nations are planning to produce 240 percent more coal, 57 percent more oil and 71 percent more natural gas than would be needed to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. At the same time, many of the oil wells and coal mines now being approved and developed could prove deeply unprofitable if demand for fossil fuels shrinks, creating economic disruption. If the world remains awash in oil, gas and coal for decades to come, then many countries could find it more difficult to shift to cleaner sources of energy. The world has already heated up roughly 1.1 degrees since the Industrial Revolution.īut the planned global expansion of fossil fuel extraction clashes sharply with those climate goals, the report found. Scientists and world leaders increasingly say that holding global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius is crucial if humanity wants to avoid the most catastrophic consequences of climate change, such as ever-deadlier heat waves, large scale flooding and widespread extinctions. Taken together, those countries are currently planning to produce more than twice as much oil, gas and coal through 2030 as would be needed if governments want to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above preindustrial levels. From a report: The report looked at future mining and drilling plans in 15 major fossil fuel producing countries, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Canada, China, India and Norway. Even as world leaders vow to take stronger action on climate change, many countries are still planning to dramatically increase their production of oil, gas and coal in the decades ahead, potentially undermining those lofty pledges, according to a United Nations-backed report released Tuesday. ![]() ![]() ![]() Still, it is compressed to a lower file size without losing any original audio data, calling it “lossless.” It is very comparable to the more well-known MP3 file.
